Top 20 Best Selling Cars In America August 2014

2013 Honda Accord red
With a massive 51,075-unit August, the Honda Accord became Americas best-selling car last month, outselling the Toyota Camry by 7032 units.

The Camry leads the Accord by 35,045 units heading into the final one-third of 2014.

Hondas small car, the Civic, also outsold its Toyota counterpart, the Corolla, in August 2014. The Corolla leads the Civic on year-to-date terms, however.

The Accords 51,075 sales marks an all-time best month for the venerable nameplate. Jointly, the Accord, Civic, and CR-V - Americas second-best-selling utility vehicle last month - accounted for 79% of the brands sales.

Americas top-selling Detroit brand car last month was the Ford Fusion, sales of which jumped 19.5% compared with August 2013. In total, Detroit nameplates accounted for five of Americas 20 best-selling cars, with no participation from the Chrysler Group.

Historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of these best-selling cars can always be accessed through the dropdown menu at GCBCs Sales Stats page, and for those not viewing the mobile version of this site, near the top right of this page, as well. GoodCarBadCar has already published the list of Americas best-selling trucks and the list of Americas best-selling SUVs in August 2014.

‡ Prefer to think of the Subaru Outback as an SUV/crossover than a tall wagon? Thats sensible. The Outback would have ranked 13th among SUVs and crossovers in August, and the Mazda 3 would move up to the 20th spot among cars.

Small And Midsize Luxury Car Sales In America October 2014 YTD

BMW USA sold 3.4 copies of the 3-Series and 4-Series in October 2014 for every Volvo. Yes, before other BMWs are even taken into account - including the 5-Series which also outsold the whole Volvo brand - the 3-Series and its 4-Series offshoot tell us something about Volvos lackluster U.S. volume.

Weve delved into Volvos doldrums before, most recently over at TTAC, where we discussed the importance of the new, second-gen XC90. But now Volvos showing us its true modern colours, having just displayed images of the upcoming V60 Cross Country. Surely it will eventually do more than just act as a V60 addendum by completely replacing that car in North America, just as the XC70 kicked the V70 to the curb.

The V60 looks a treat, and the V60s cladding and ride height give it that Subaru Outback flare Americans have taken to with such fervour. But we are still discussing a wagon thats dimensionally quite hatchback-like, a car which has not proven successful at winning converts in North America despite GCBCs frank approval.

Only 326 V60s were sold in the United States in October 2014, its lowest-volume month since the car arrived in January of this year. Incidentally, the S60s 1127-unit October performance was its lowest-volume U.S. sales month since January 2011 when the current generation of S60 was just getting underway.

Whether you blame pricing or image or dealer locations or dealer inventory, its abundantly obvious that Volvo cars are increasingly rare. Even if the new XC90 saves the brand in North America, its hard to believe the cars will become suddenly popular. Unless, of course, the V60 Cross Country turns the V60 into a "wagon" SUV pretenders can tolerate.

You can click any model name in the tables below to find historical monthly and yearly U.S. auto sales data. You can also select a make and model at GCBCs Sales Stats page. These tables are now sortable, so you can rank luxury brand cars any which way you like. Suggestions on how GCBC should break down segments can be passed on through the Contact page.

* vehicle also displayed in another GCBC segment breakdown
^ BMW USA, not GCBC, has decided to combine sales figures for the 3-Series and 4-Series, the 1-Series and 2-Series. Acura has done the same with the new RLX and old RL.
^ A4 includes Allroad, without which A4 sales were down 25% to 2268 in October; down 6% to 28,097 YTD.
^ Jointly, Q50 and G sedan sales were up 5% to 4222 in October; up 21% to 42,294 YTD. Total G, Q60, Q50 sales were up 1% to 4718 in October; up 11% to 48,548 YTD.
GCBC isnt here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better. This explains why youll see the Acura ILX here but also with mainstream cars like the Buick Verano, too, and the Audi A5 is also displayed with coupes and convertibles... because readers have wanted it both ways. Hyundai USA, not GoodCarBadCar, chooses to combine sales figures for the Genesis sedan and Genesis Coupe, forcing us to include the Genesis with volume-brand cars on pricing grounds before we even get to the "brand status" issue. The K900, Equus, and XTS are here not because of their size but because of their price points, their lack of direct comparability with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts.

Top 30 Best Selling Vehicles In America 2014 Year End

2015 ford f-150
Pickup trucks claimed the three top positions as Americas best-selling vehicles in 2014, combining to generate one out of every ten new vehicle sales over the last twelve months.

• U.S. Vehicle Sales Rankings By Model - 2014 Year End

Cars, beginning with the top-selling Toyota Camry, claimed the next four positions and 14 of the top 28. This list of the 30 best-selling vehicles includes five pickup trucks in total, no minivans, and 11 utility vehicles, from the eighth-ranked Honda CR-V to the 30th-ranked Toyota Highlander.

Compared with the 2013 edition of this list, the Ford Edge, Chevrolet Impala, and Toyota Prius have all been knocked off. They were replaced by the Highlander, Jeep Cherokee, and Subaru Forester.
