Large Luxury SUV Sales In Canada June 2014 YTD

2015 Cadillac Escalade black
GM Canada is prepping the launch of the new 2015 Cadillac Escalade in Toronto, Ontario, as we speak. Or type, or converse, or open up a dialogue, or whatever it is we do. Thats not Toronto in the above image.

Cadillac hasnt sold more than 50 regular-wheelbase Escalades since April of last year, not more than 60 since March 2012, and not more than 70 since November 2011.

There havent been more than 20 long-wheelbase Escalade ESVs sold in a single month since August 2012, not more than 30 since April 2010. Presumably, this new Escalade will sell more frequently.

In the meantime, Mercedes-Benz has ratcheted up sales of the GL-Class. GL volume jumped 20% in 2011, 7% in 2012, and 30% in 2013. The GL fell 11% through the first five months of 2014, but sales shot up 73% in June.

Land Rover Range Rover sales, meanwhile, quintupled in June. The Range Rover outsold the Infiniti QX80, Lincoln Navigator, and the Escalade family combined last month.

You can click any model name in the tables below to find historical monthly and yearly Canadian auto sales data. You can also select a make and model at GCBCs Sales Stats page. These tables are now sortable, so you can rank large luxury SUV flagships any which way you like. Suggestions on how GCBC should break down segments can be passed on through the Contact page.

Over the last few months, the Audi Q3, BMW X4, Lexus NX, Lincoln MKC, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and Porsche Macan entered the market.

Thus, in a compact category which last year included just one vehicle, sales jumped 163% thanks to assistance from the Q3 and GLA.

One class up, the new nameplates werent needed in order for the market to expand. January sales of small luxury utilities that were on sale a year ago jumped 8%. But with the X4, NX, MKC, and Macan assisting, segment-wide volume shot up 49%.

This was out of the ordinary for the utility vehicle arena in Canada last month. Total sales rose just 2% after soaring 15% in 2014.

You can click any model name in the tables below to find historical monthly and yearly Canadian auto sales data. You can also select a make and model at GCBCs Sales Stats page. GCBC isnt here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The more ways sales data can be displayed, the better. This explains youll see the XC70 listed with luxury cars as well as with SUVs and crossovers and the Touareg with luxury SUVs and mainstream SUVs... because readers have wanted it both ways. 2014 Year End U S SUV And Crossover Sales Rankings Top 92 Best Selling SUVs In America Every SUV Ranked

2015 honda cr-v
Americas best-selling SUV in 2014 was the Honda CR-V, the third consecutive year and seventh in the last eight in which the CR-V has led the U.S. utility vehicle leaderboard.

The CR-V strengthened its position on top by expanding the gap between itself and the Ford Escape to 28,807 units, up from 7911 units in 2013.

Yet joining the CR-V in its record-setting sales year were some of its closest rivals: the second-ranked Ford Escape, the third-ranked Toyota RAV4, the fourth-ranked Chevrolet Equinox, and the sixth-ranked Nissan Rogue.

Traditional favourites like the Ford Explorer and Jeep Grand Cherokee reported nine-year highs. Year-over-year, the full-size SUV category was up 12% to 293,087 units. Luxury automakers also improved upon their 2013 SUV/crossover sales totals: BMWs five X models were up 8%, Mercedes-Benz utilities rose 11%, Lincolns four utility vehicle nameplates jumped 36%, Cadillacs Escalades and SRX rose 9%, Acuras crossover lineup was up 13%, Land Rovers Range Rover trio improved by 9%, Lexus SUV/crossover sales were up 14%, Audi and Porsche combined for an 18% increase. Infiniti and Volvo were the only premium brands to report fewer SUV/crossover sales in 2014 than in 2013.
